We said our goodbyes last night to the Edmonds Yacht Club and today we began our next part of the trip. Sue got a beautiful picture of Synnova with Vancouver in the background as we departed.
Larry and Cheryl, Al and Sue, and Bob and I left early to get through the Georgia Strait before the winds picked up even more than they were. Our plan was to meet up with Jack and Moon Canon at John Henry's Marina on Pender Island. We all had 15-20 knot winds and 6' high seas. Our three boats were going into the wind so we had a lot of the hard pounding. Jack and Moon were coming from Nanaimo and took the waves to the side of their boat which resulted in a lot of rocking. We all did find but were very glad we left early. Some of the yacht club members were not able to head back home because of the rough water. The following two pictures show a little of how rough it was for us. The first picture shows the horizon below the top of the computer monitor as the bow of the boat went up in the air. The next picture shows the horizon much higher in the window as we came crashing back down the other side of the waves. When we got to John Henry's Marina Bob noticed that our rain gauge said we had had 5 inches of rain! We actually had beautiful sunny weather but the "rain" was actually in the form of the waves crashing over the boat.
John Henry's Marina was formally known as Fisherman's Resort but it changed hands last year. They have done some sprucing up of the buildings and expanded the grocery store. They even added a cafe to the grocery store. Our favorite burger place is just a short walk away so we went there for our eagerly awaited burgers and milkshakes.
Tonight we gathered on the dock and enjoyed the fellowship of good friends.
