Commodore's Cruise Day 7 - Telegraph Harbour

Today is the day of the Chemainus Theater play, “Footloose”. Before we left for the ferry I took a quick walk up the street to the honor system store. I had heard about this from several people who had been to Telegraph. There is a box by the door to drop your money into. Someone asked if they get cheated out of payment and the said that if anything, they make extra money. Since no one is there to make change (and with the Canadian exchange rate people often over pay so theft really isn’t a problem.

On my way back to the marina I got a few nice pictures of it.

At 10:30 we walked to the ferry that took us across to the town of Chermainus on Vancouver Island. Chermainus is a very cute town with murals on many of its walls. We had lunch at a café that served enormous portions. The food was great and Bob and Larry were intrigued with a wall safe that was in the room we ate in. It looks like it must have been a bank at one time.

Our next stop was the play and we enjoyed it so much. The venue was beautiful. There were only 274 seats and 8 rows. They were very steep rows so nor matter how tall the person in front of you was, you could still easily see. We were in the 4th row and in the center. The facility had a lovely dining room upstairs so many patrons come for a dinner prior to the play. They even had an art auction going on until sometime in August. Since I wasn’t allowed to  take pictures, I got these from the internet. The play was so good and the actors were fantastic. The casting was excellent and we had a lot of fun. We have realty enjoyed doing some things like this while we are cruising. It has been fun to see what some of the island life is like for the residents.

As we returned to Thetis Island I noticed a sign that said what we thought was a Bible camp was actually a Capernwray Bible Centre. It is "a branch of the international and interdenominational work of Torchbearers International. It is one of 25 such centres for Bible training, retreats and evangelism, which are scattered throughout 20 different countries of the world." (taken from the Capernwray website).

When we returned to Telegraph we found many who stayed behind busy with a game of shuffleboard. Dinner was a relaxed appetizer spread on the dock with Al and Sue and a few others who joined us.
