Commodore's Cruise Day 11 - Vancouver (Quayside Marina)

This morning started off with a walk around Yaletown - the part of town just up from the marina. I would it to Seattle's Belltown district. It used to be a warehouse district and all the loading docks are now the home to restaurant after restaurant. There are many upscale restaurants and pubs in the area and is obviously a very popular place to shop and eat.

In the heart of Yaletown is this old roundhouse that was built in 1988 and was used for the steam locomotives of the day. Now it has become the center of the Roundhouse Community Arts and Recreation Center. Dorothy, Abby and I found one of our geocaches at this location and it even had a "travel bug" in it. I plan to take it to somewhere near my home and help it travel on from there. It originated in Sweden so it has already come a long way.

Bob and I took a walk along the seawall to see how far we would need to go to see the fireworks tonight. Every year Vancouver holds the Honda Celebration of Light International Fireworks when three countries present their best fireworks on separate nights. Tonight is Australia's show so we wanted to be sure we could see well. The paths along False Creek are amazing with one path for pedestrians and one for bicycles. There are lovely parks all along the shoreline and nice views of the marinas and boating activity.

One of the boats that is moored just down the dock from us is a 151' super yacht named  "After Eight". It is owned by the largest GM dealer in Canada and named this because of his 8 children. It has 5 staterooms and crew quarters for 12.  It was amazing to see it and to see the activity that surrounded it. Fresh flowers were delivered, crew members were constantly cleaning it, and they had guests both evenings we were there.

Tonight we took our walk with Larry and Cheryl down to the harbor where the barge was located so we could watch the fireworks. They were very nice and there were some I have not seen before. We really enjoyed them and it was a great event for our Commodore's Cruise. Many of the members went out on NeaSea LaRae but we decided they might get caught up in the traffic coming back so we went ahead walked so we could get back sooner. As it turned out they were back about 10 minutes after us.
