Broughtons Summer Cruise Day 10 - Blind Channel

It was wonderful to have the whole day here at Blind Channel and not have to leave early to go somewhere. I worked on my blog when I could get a good enough wifi connection and Bob got some nice pictures of the marina with his drone. The five boats at the far left are the ones in our group. Synnova is closer to the dock in the double slip.

There was was accident in the marina when a sailboat tried to leave and got caught in the current. It ran into the sailboat docked next to it and tangled with the anchor and lines as well as the hull of the boat. It is so sad to see that happen and we have seen it several times. Sometimes the currents get the better of the captain and sometimes it is lack of skill but always it is tough to see a boater dealing with a damaged boat. An hour or so later I saw another boat backing in to the slip that the sailboat had left and he also had a tough time getting into the slip. Right next to him was the same sailboat that had gotten damaged earlier. The captain and first mate of that boat had their fenders out and were ready to help push the boat away if it ran into them, also. Fortunately, with enough help on the dock the arriving captain was able to get it into the slip with no damage.

We all ate lunch at the marina outdoor grill. The waitress was fun and although she bordered on "rude", I have to admit she was entertaining. I think it was just part of her dry humor. We had a great time and the food was very good.

After lunch we decided to take one of the trails that led to a large old growth cedar tree that is about 800 years old measuring about 16 feet in diameter. However, there are bears in this area and I have to admit that made me nervous. I bought a deck of cards that contain 52 tips for staying safe in bear country. We made lots of noise and joked about sending each other first and it worked! We did not see a bear and we had a lot of fun. It was a beautiful walk through the forest. The first photo is of Cheryl reacting to "did you say bear?"  Actually, we heard an explosion of dynamite from some workers nearby but she reacted just as I took her picture.

After dinner we relaxed on the dock with our friends and discussed the merits of Jack's new mosquito repellent gadget. We had a great time and enjoy these friends so much. We all love our down time by ourselves but enjoy getting together at times for visiting and activities. We cruise so well together and really look forward to each year's trip together.
