Broughtons Summer Cruise - Day 21 Lagoon Cove

We took our time leaving this morning since we only had a 2-1/2 hour run today to Lagoon Cove. We left Echo Bay about 10:30 and had beautiful scenery all the way. We even saw a humpback whale along the way.

There were many small islands along the way and the steep rock walls turned in to rolling hills. We saw eagles two different times that were perched on a rock looking as regal as always.

Sue sent me this picture of us ahead of them going through one of the many channels. It was a gorgeous view in there. I also took a picture but it obviously didn't have us in it.

We arrived at Lagoon Cove at 1:15 and were greeted by the son-in-law of the owner. He introduced himself as Dan and said that his father-in-law, Jim, purchased the marina last year. This is their first summer season and they have been working hard to fix things up for the coming boaters. Dan and his wife, Kelly, moved here from northern Minnesota and are excited to be involved in the operation. Below are pictures of the workhouse (with umbrellas in front) where we meet for appetizers, potlucks and all the prawns you can eat.  They also have a trading library and an old workshop they welcomed us to go into. Another thing I stumbled across on the dock was a crab cooking shack. They had crab pots, a cooker, propane and all you need to fix a crab dinner. There was a sign that just asked the boaters to clean up when they are done.  The entire marina has a very welcoming feel to it and invites guests to make themselves at home.

While relaxing on the boat I got a picture of this cute little bird sitting on the bow rail of a boat.

They have potluck appetizers every evening on the dock and the marina provides fresh caught prawns. We had a wonderful dinner with all the appetizers and all we could eat prawns. Kelly sat with us and we had an opportunity to get to know her and to learn a little about their lives here in the Broughtons.

When we came back to the boat I made an apple pie for our boating friends and Moon brought the must-have vanilla ice cream. The second picture is all of us having a great time visiting and Bob showing off his Kilimanjaro knife.

This evening we had hoped for a colorful sunset but instead we got a beautiful silhouette of the hills with a crescent moon. You have to look closely to see the moon. It is just to the right of the tallest peak. It was very pretty and well worth a photo.
